Shipwrek’s Journal, a Must Have Album of 2009

    2009 - 12.27

What are you doing? Step reading this and go get Shipwrek‘s Journal! I have no clue how this passed under my radar, but it’s definitely one of the most amazing albums I’ve heard this year. Shipwrek’s got the balls to the wall bass and breaks, but there’s no fear in his masterful experimentation with ambient melodies. The album manages to combine the latest sounds from the west coast glitch aesthetic with epic elements I would ordinarily attribute to post rock.

I’ve been really lucky to get my hands on some of Shipwrek‘s unreleased tracks and it’s no short of face-melting-good.

Get Shipwrek‘s Journal at BandCamp. And don’t forget to support the artist!

Ronald Jenkees’ Disorganized Fun Kinda Glitchy

    2009 - 12.14

My attention was first drawn to Ronald Jenkees a few years ago as he was releasing his self-titled debut. While looking for nerdcore style music, a friend linked me to Jenkees’ 56K Rap. Fast-forward to today; I’ve almost forgotten about the multi-talented youtube phenomenon and here he pops up again. His new album ‘Disorganized Fun’ is definitely proof that this musician is consistently evolving and exploring beyond the boundaries of various musical styles. Only a few of the tracks on Jenkees’ latest album share a slightly ‘glitch’ aesthetic. Regardless, to apply the label to Jenkees would be to ignore the complexity of his album in its entirety. I wholeheartedly suggest you give ‘Disorganized Fun’ a listen.
