IamTrip – As It Was EP Review

    2012 - 05.07

It takes a lot to excite me, especially since electronic music is such a fickle lover. She can take you to new places, shower you with all her attention, and offer more gifts than you can possible bare. Or she can lie there- distant and cold. You could say that music and I haven’t been talking much lately.

That changed this morning, when an EP arrived in my inbox and hit me so hard, it was like an arrow piercing through mediocrity. You could say it succeeds by opposing the latest trends. It’s under-produced, minimalist, ambient, and although there’s a drop, it’s not the kind you would expect. But it would be an injustice to refer to the EP as simply a reaction to popular EDM.

‘As it was’ by IamTrip is a beautifully crafted journey through psychedelic and ambient glitch. It also confuses the living hell out of me, which is an excellent sign. I want to bask in its epic post-rock sound, mellow out to its chiller side, and dance to its beats- all within four tracks. I’ve been enjoying ‘As it was’ immensely and hope you enjoy it too.

Mad-Hop Vol.3 Out Now! Name your price. ft. Pixelord, Karaoke Tundra, and many more…

    2011 - 09.27

Mad-Hop vol.3 from Kamil Macejko on Vimeo.

I love what these guys do. The third instance of this compilation is top notch! Mad-Hop Volume 3 features some excellent tunes that you shouldn’t miss out on. Plus, you can name your price for the album over at Bandcamp. The is no reason why you shouldn’t own this album.

This third trip around the world has connected artists from Japan, Serbia, Canada, Hungary, U.S.A, Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, England, Russia, France and Slovakia.

We got Pixelord (RU) with his dope drop of dubstep and special guest Tilman Ehrhorn (GER) with his track “Sat” remixed by Himuro Yoshiteru (JP). 2Legit2Quit (CA) introduced himself with some unusual lyrics and BFPSP (USA) got produced by AL_PD (USA). Really thick production popped from Galex and Karaoke Tundra (SL), who also remixed one of fewer tracks with lyrics that came from Cy6erSlut ft. 2Legit2Quit (RU,CA). Pure madness provided by Save Slaves (RU) who appreciate “Nice haircut” and Stephan Farris (USA) with his interesting tune “Sweton”. Headshotboyz (HUN) made a dope hip-hop experiment once again and so did aKiLi (USA) with his buzzing track “Mellowdining”. Filtercutter (SER) also participated, this time featuring Zzuu (NL) remixing track from Manni Dee (ENG). Amazing stuff came from England’s finest, Alphabets Heaven (ENG) with his alien production and Ambassadeurs (ENG) that gave us goosebumbs over his track “M.O.P.E”. Miqi O. Huey Newton (FR) remixed “Gak” from Huess (USA) and gave us lazy snare hit at the back of a neck that is simply unforgettable.  Parallel Concept (BUL) went some place deep and created “Buckyball molecule”. Laser synth invasion by Jakub Nox Ambroziak (PL) who gave us “Proton decay” was remixed by Stendek (PL) and we went “Virtual l” with the man himself Powell (FR). B-Ju (GER) introduced some dreamy soundscapes with nice vocals and we also got Lambent (JP) with more classic laid back vibe.

PANTyRAiD Release Their Brain Rattling Superior EP

    2011 - 04.26

I had the pleasure of catching MartyParty, Opiou, and Freq Nasty at the Santos Party House last month. Ilya P brought in a few extra subs to give the bass that extra little boost. I remember standing with my back to the far wall of the venue and as the bass frequencies changed my body began to vibrate, alternating between a pulse in my knees and my chest. It doesn’t get more visceral than that. The pinnacle of the night was a track MartyParty dropped about half way through his set.  The name of that track is Superior and it’s out tomorrow.

I can’t help but get the feeling that the west coast dubstep and bass scene is getting a little stale. There I said it. Go over to Addictech and browse the glitch hop genre for the past two months. It’s all decent, but it all sounds so similar. Whatever happened to the genre bending elements of bass music? Maybe it’s all the recycled patches, but it’s becoming difficult to distinguish one artist from another. I’m not hating, I’m just eager to hear something new. Pantyraid’s Superior EP doesn’t defy the formula, but it does a hell of a job promoting the bass face.

You can buy the EP off http://pantyraid.spinshop.com/
