    Glitch.CZ Podcast Episode V: +Verb and Pixelord

    2010 - 10.25

    Glitch.CZ Podcast

For the fifth installment of the Glitch.CZ Podcast we’ve got +Verb (read: adverb) from Nevada, USA and Pixelord from Russia. And don’t miss the interview below!

    .

    +Verb

+Verb is the result of many long hours of work, obsessing the details of numerous styles. Taking influences from dubstep, glitch, hip-hop, urban, electro, RnB, and heavy bass, +verb melts together sounds that defy boundaries set forth by typical genres. +verb is currently the secret weapon of many live performers and has support from Starkey, Dev79, Slugabed, Mimosa, Dave Seied, ill Cosby, Sugarpill, and Ana Sia, to name a few.

+Verb’s “Sensual Frequencies EP” was just released on Crash Car Set! It’s available on Juno, Boomkat, and Itunes.

    Pixelord

Pixelord, also known under the title Gultskra Artikler, is the Russian born veteran of electronic dark ambient music. With his latest project he decided to focus on beats and more dance oriented music, but by no means was this a compromise of his experimental core. Pixelord takes the influence of old school videos games and mashes 8-bit sounds with hip hop beats.

His debut four track EP “Lucid Freaks” was heard worldwide upon its release and is still making rounds.

Denoir’s Brick Bar Tribute – Skweee & Funk Mix

    2010 - 10.20

Once upon a time there was a place called the Brick Bar. Musicians came from far and wide to listen and perform. And once a month this venue was a home for more than just a few good friends. This was the last mix by Denoir for the Glitch.CZ party at the Brick Bar (13.2.2010). Enjoy!

Brick Bar Tribute – skweee & funk mix by Denoir

    Distant Future Garage by Denoir

    2010 - 10.13

My vision of Future Garage. Includes: tracks from exciting talents (Bruises, Claviq, Newtown), electronic music geniuses of today (Darkstar, Dorian Concept), IDM classics (Mouse On Mars, Luke Vibert), future garage artists (KingThing, Littlefoot) and other bass music producers (Spatial, Sully, Gremino, C.R.S.T) and an obligatory skweee track by Claws (motherfunkin’) Costeau. Do not hesitate to check out their music; highly recommended

If anyone’s interested in “Future garage” name overthinking rant, here it is:
The future is no longer what it used to be. When I first heard future garage I thought – “Where’s the vibe? Why is the production boringly artificial? Why does every tune sound like “properly” produced Burial track?” and most importantly “Where’s the future?” Later on I realised that it actually reflects the future very well – it isn’t nearly as exciting as one would hope (and the name suggests). It aims to develop the garage sound to relative perfection using current production techniques which is fine and I do like some of the tracks (and included a couple in this mix). However, it is not enough for me to be able to accept the adjective “future” in it the genre’s name. New school garage? Ok. To me, the future should be about bombastic visions, teleports, perfect androids, jetpacks and stuff like that. So this mix is a tribute to that old fashioned futurism and expresses my hope for this kind of (distant) future. Enjoy!

Double Bass: Eprom and Sharps, Monday Sets

    2010 - 09.20

Two of my favorite producers just put out brand new sets. I’d be surprised if you haven’t heard of Eprom who’s known for bringing the monster bass. Sharps, on the hand has the wobble down like it’s second nature. I encourage you to give both a listen.

Head over to Eprom’s Bandcamp for his RobotSexTape.

Sharps’ Phage of Reason is below:

    Zlatomil’s Set from FreezeFest 2010

    2010 - 09.19

A number of DJs and producers featured on Glitch.CZ such as Matoa, tvprodukt, Denoir, Claviq, and Zlatomil performed at FreezeFest this weekend. The festival took place in Milovice, an abandoned military base. I had the pleasure to run around the area a number of years ago and it’s totally out of this world. There’s an entire town with police station, apartment buildings, school, movie theater and all. Everything has been abandoned on the spot. It really looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie.

Freeze Fest seemed to slip under my radar but I’m going to make it up to you. For starters, here’s Zlatomil‘s beautiful set from the festival. Enjoy the clicks and jitters my friends.

Glitch.CZ Podcast Episode IV: Mesak and Citrus

    2010 - 08.25

    .

    Glitch.CZ Podcast

The fourth episode of the Glitch.CZ Podcast is here! Now coming to you from Brooklyn, New York. This month we’ve got two sets packed with original productions. First up, it’s skweee with Mesak from Finland, followed by some glitch and dubstep by Citrus from Denver, USA.

    .

    .

    Mesak

Mesak was born in Turku, Finland. His first experiments with music production began with tape loop edits, dubbing with open reel tape recorders and a turntable. Later he used “crappy” PC tracker programs combined with a tascam 4 tracker, roland SH7 and various other equipment. In 1997 Metsätähti and his frind Peltonen form their electro band Mr Velcro Fastener. With their first release recorded on the hot summer of 1997. “Wad EP” oldschool electro gets good reviews all around. Metsätähti keeps on doing his own experiments at the same time. In 1999 Mr Velcro Fastener releases their first album “Lucky Bastards Living Up North” and tours in Germany & Italy. Mr Velcro continues their productions and tour the US. They also work alongside Erlend Øye on his solo album and remixes. Metsätähti continues making remixes for artists such as Machinedrum and Transparent Sound. He releases some more vinyl releases under his Mesak pseudonym, and Plays various solo gigs both in clubs and experimental spaces, in  Collaboration with VJ’s and visual projects. Mesak runs Harmönia label together with Randy Barracuda who’s known for his electro act Imatran Voima. Harmönia’s scandinavian funk known as skweee climbs up underground playlists. And the summer of 2008 brings pale producers to present their Skweee showcase at the Sónar festival.

Check out Mesak’s latest album School of Mesak.

    Citrus

Citrus is the musical alias of Gabriel Melchor, a DJ and producer hailing from Denver, CO, with a diverse range encompassing reggae, electro, glitch hop, and everything in-between.

His passion for music started early in life, with Bob Marley becoming a staple in his rotation at the young age of 11. As he grew into teenhood, his tastes changed to encompass the rebellious and frenetic styles of punk and ska, but it was in high school that he was exposed to the mind-bending (and life-changing) sounds of IDM and drum and bass, with artists like Autechre, Aphex Twin, and Roni Size wielding sonic palettes he had never imagined possible. This newly discovered passion for the abstract sounds of electronica in all its forms provided the impetus to create and discover new sonic territory of his own.

Today, Citrus’ musical creations fuse elements from the many styles which have shaped his tastes over the years. The result is a sonic melting pot like life itself, both urban and natural, shifting tempos and textures seamlessly from one minute to the next; the bitcrushed alongside the beautiful, the cold and calculated battling the analog and tribal. The aim is to find musical common ground and a unique sound which inspires people to dance, laugh, cry, and share in the personal freedom that can only be experienced through music.

Eklektik Fluidum – Pubstep Ticket (Glitch Hop, Bass)

    2010 - 07.15

Fascinated by the unique raw sound of drum and bass and the powerful atmosphere of the first dvoika.troika parties in ostrava (1999), Eklektik Fluidum started playing drum and bass and promoting parties, which eventually led to the birth of the basstillbeat crew (2002). HC nuskool, synthetic fractures, bugbears, amens & the atmospheric cosmos were significant aspects of his sets, but he also collected downtempo vinyls, especially from the beloved ninjatune label. After several years full of enthusiasm for the  dnb scene and playing clubs all over the Czech Republic with a whole host of DJs and producers, Eklektik Fluidum began expanding his tastes further, which eventually led him to a melting pot of 70-170 bmp wonkadelic funky-glitched bass psynergy without any genre limitations.
