– BELLY of The BEATS –
The Official After-party for Beats Antique @ Brooklyn Bowl
featuring DAVID STARFIRE, members of BEATS ANTIQUE, & DJ JOY.
For one special night, New York will be swept over by exotic sands and the rockin bellies from the caravan of our illustrious friends Beats Antique & David Starfire. After tearing it up at Brooklyn Bowl these extremely special artists will take us on a journey to a deserted chelsea brownstone with four floors full of Circus Performers, Mind Bending Visual projections, Hoopers, Face Painters, and all other forms of colorful nomads….(did we mention Belly dancers too!!)
Come as a hapless desert wanderer, an ostentatious sultan, a sinister circus performer, a soothsayer, a somalian pirate, Moses, or a Nepali princess lest ye be wanting to be pawned at a bazaar, (in which case you can come as a Roman slave)
**A Portion of the Proceeds will go to fund the Thunder Gumbo Burning Man Camp**
So many wonderful items in my inbox, yet so little time!
First off is third installation of the documentary series “In Search of the Unsound.” I’m usually more attracted to the breaky stuff, but the music featured in this documentary carried me off to another world. A worthy view for sure.
“In the previous parts, within the frame of the Krakow Unsound festival, we explored terror, fear and tension in modern music with our guide, journalist Philip Sherburne. While the two first episodes were centred around Demdike Stare, Mordant Music and Kreng, it’s now time for Oni Ayhun and Australian musician Ben Frost, who has been based in Iceland for years now and is the creator of a kind of music where terrifying ambient, noise, drone and metal come together in a ball of energy of extremely high levels. At Unsound Krakow, Frost premiered his new work, “We Don’t Need Other Worlds, We Need Mirrors. Music For Solaris”, composed alongside Daníel Bjarnason, interpreted by an orchestra of 29 musicians and inspired by the classic science-fiction novel “Solaris”, by Stanislaw Lem, and adapted to film by Andrei Tarkovski.”
Performances will include Lone, Dorian Concept, Sepalcure, amongst many many others.
In New York and across America, music fans and the press alike embraced Unsound Festival New York 2010 as a refreshing addition to the city calendar and quickly realized that Unsound provided a very different model even for New York, where every day can feel like a music festival. Enraptured by what they saw, Urb magazine described Unsound as “scene-shifting” and declared that the festival instantly “cemented its status as one of the most important cultural festivities in New York City.” While Jon Pareles wrote in the New York Times that the Festival “claims a shrewdly amorphous domain: a zone in a virtual Europe (including Eastern Europe and Scandinavia) where electronics; arty, multimedia experiments; chamber-music meticulousness; punk impulses; and D.J. dance beats may all appear amid clouds of noise…this festival’s aesthetic: high-tech, allusive and not to be pinned down.”
Mimosa takes the listener on a space age psychedelic journey of bittersweet ecstasy. Only a two year veteren of the west coast sound movement, Mimosa is quickly making a name for himself as one of the top west coast exports. This young producer’s energy while performing is magnetic; the word has spread fast and Mimosa has recently shared the stage with the likes Benga, Skream, Rusko, Datsik, Glitch Mob, ill.gates, Bassnectar and Flying Lotus, playing shows across the US and festivals like Coachella, Symbiosis Gathering, Burning Man and Decibel Festival. Fans know Mimosa as someone who brings a ‘good-time’ energy that is as fierce as it is friendly, taking them on journeys through urban chaos and ethereal euphoria.
Eprom is easily one of the top producers on my list. I’ve been following his work for years now and I’m really excited to catch him live. Another big up to Bass Fueled Mischief & Mr Bugsly for making this happen!
