In 2009, the underground anthem, “Malt Liquor” hit pirate radio stations around the globe. A collaboration with Chae Hawk, the cut was rinsed by dubstep don Plastician and featured on the “Dubstep LA: Embrace The Renaissance Vol. 1,” the first rap/dubstep crossover mixtape.

Live, Rx brings the low-end bounce when he hits the decks. Pixelord takes the influence of old school videos games and mashes 8-bit sounds with hip hop beats.

    Glitch.CZ Podcast

The fourth episode of the Glitch.CZ Podcast is here! Now coming to you from Brooklyn, New York. This month we’ve got two sets packed with original productions. First up, it’s skweee with Mesak from Finland, followed by some glitch and dubstep by Citrus from Denver, USA.

    .

    .

    Mesak

Mesak was born in Turku, Finland. His first experiments with music production began with tape loop edits, dubbing with open reel tape recorders and a turntable. Later he used “crappy” PC tracker programs combined with a tascam 4 tracker, roland SH7 and various other equipment. In 1997 Metsätähti and his frind Peltonen form their electro band Mr Velcro Fastener. With their first release recorded on the hot summer of 1997. “Wad EP” oldschool electro gets good reviews all around. Metsätähti keeps on doing his own experiments at the same time. In 1999 Mr Velcro Fastener releases their first album “Lucky Bastards Living Up North” and tours in Germany & Italy. Mr Velcro continues their productions and tour the US. They also work alongside Erlend Øye on his solo album and remixes. Metsätähti continues making remixes for artists such as Machinedrum and Transparent Sound. He releases some more vinyl releases under his Mesak pseudonym, and Plays various solo gigs both in clubs and experimental spaces, in  Collaboration with VJ’s and visual projects. Mesak runs Harmönia label together with Randy Barracuda who’s known for his electro act Imatran Voima. Harmönia’s scandinavian funk known as skweee climbs up underground playlists. And the summer of 2008 brings pale producers to present their Skweee showcase at the Sónar festival.

    Citrus

Citrus is the musical alias of Gabriel Melchor, a DJ and producer hailing from Denver, CO, with a diverse range encompassing reggae, electro, glitch hop, and everything in-between.

His passion for music started early in life, with Bob Marley becoming a staple in his rotation at the young age of 11. As he grew into teenhood, his tastes changed to encompass the rebellious and frenetic styles of punk and ska, but it was in high school that he was exposed to the mind-bending (and life-changing) sounds of IDM and drum and bass, with artists like Autechre, Aphex Twin, and Roni Size wielding sonic palettes he had never imagined possible. This newly discovered passion for the abstract sounds of electronica in all its forms provided the impetus to create and discover new sonic territory of his own.

Today, Citrus’ musical creations fuse elements from the many styles which have shaped his tastes over the years. The result is a sonic melting pot like life itself, both urban and natural, shifting tempos and textures seamlessly from one minute to the next; the bitcrushed alongside the beautiful, the cold and calculated battling the analog and tribal. The aim is to find musical common ground and a unique sound which inspires people to dance, laugh, cry, and share in the personal freedom that can only be experienced through music.

Glitch.CZ Podcast Episode III: Matoa and Sugarpill

    2010 - 06.18

    .

    .

    Glitch.CZ Podcast

The wait is over! The third episode of the Glitch.CZ Podcast has arrived. Yet again we bring together producers from Europe and the US. First, a DJ set by Matoa, producer and founder of Case Records. Then an off the wall production by Sugarpill, with his latest original material – heard here for the very first time.

    .

    Matoa

Pavel Matoušek aka Matoa, founder of Case Records, is a Prague based DJ and producer who has been proudly presenting dubstep and UK-Garage in the Czech Republic for 7 years now. He is presently represented by Dubkraft Records (Romania), Bankai-Audio (UK), Soak (CZ) and by the publishing company DogBotPublishing (UK / London).

Matoa, an artist who has managed to develop his own sound, expects to prove himself in 2010. It’s a year of new contacts, new successes, and putting his skills to the test.  But there’s no need for him to compromise his underground style. Proving that good dubstep is not limited to Bristol or London; Matoa’s live show carves a path leading straight to the Czech Republic. Along with DJ and producer Ans, these two are the pillars of the Czech dubstep community.

    Sugarpill

Specializing in bouncing bass, sideways beats and experiments of noise, Sugarpill is a master of both the creation and delivery of polytemponic glitch. Residing in Los Angeles yet living in a twisted world of sound, this young artist stays dosed to the eyelids in chopped-up samples, meticulously tweaked beats and obese waves of bass.

Sugarpill seamlessly merges his techy sensibility and immaculate production skills without ever losing the inherent sexiness of the beats, and this multidimensional musical approach unites EDM fans across a vast spectrum of genres and tempos. His original tracks combined with explosive live DJ sets confirm for the producer a powerful spot at the forefront of West Coast future sound. Crossing genres effortlessly and employing a rich variety of styles, his lively and intense sound is best described as a party- and that is exactly what Sugarpill brings to the dance floor.

As co-founder of and contributor to Abletontweets.com, Sugarpill uses his knowledge of the wildly diverse software not only to propel his own musical career, but to help aspiring producers develop their skills as well. Along with bass compatriot Stutterfly, Sugarpill also runs the popular Polybeat Plant radio show on GlitchFM, airing every Thursday night from 6-8PM PST and broadcast around the world into earholes hungry for glitchy goodness.

Having played alongside RD, Tom Burbank, Spank Rock, Eprom and Robot Koch, Sugarpill will no doubt continue to push electronic music forward towards the next new genre that no one will be able to name. He is now completing his next EP. His most recent productions, mixes and Sugarcasts including the new mixtape “Snark Spaks on a Curved Table” can be found on his SoundCloud or at SugarpillMusic.

    .
    Glitch.CZ Podcast

This is the second episode in a series of monthly podcasts featured on Glitch.CZ. This month we’re connecting the US and the Czech Republic with two producers. We’ve got a set of completely original material by Omega, who’s been blowing up on the Denver Dubstep scene. Don’t miss the interview with Omega at the end of the podcast. Plus, Claviq brings us a DJ mix of some of his favorite tracks combined with some of his personal work.

    .

    Claviq

Claviq Valetudinarian is a 20-year-old producer from Prague, the Czech Republic, whose music has been released on Amenorea. He has also collaborated with the Czech label Case Records and leans towards glitch music, but you can also hear dubstep, fragments of spoken word, and classical music in his productions. While DJing he combines his own compositions with live vocal performances, which is a show not to be missed. Sub-bass? Sturdy bass!

    Omega

Omega is a bass music producer and DJ, currently residing in Denver, Colorado, US. He first discovered electronic music through the big beat, IDM, and industrial scenes during the late ’90s, and bought his first pair of turntables in 2000. Over the years his tastes have also included jungle, progressive breaks, psychedelic trance, and dub – and in the last couple of years have settled into dubstep and related forms of bass music. Though DJing will always hold a special place in his heart, recently writing and producing tunes has become Omega’s primary obsession.

His performances are a hybrid between a DJ set and a live performance – he uses a laptop running Ableton Live, with several MIDI controllers, effects processors, and synths. An Omega set will always include many original tunes, remixes, edits, and mashes, with a heavy emphasis on live improvisation and manipulation. His energy and stage presence, combined with his monster tunes, inevitably whip a crowd into a frenzy of bassed out bliss.

His tracks blend the most raw and aggressive aspects of dubstep – snarling synth sounds and organ churning sub-bass – with a careful attention to sound design and elegant use of melody, creating a sound that is at once primal, funky, and psychedelic. Omega tunes and remixes have been making the rounds among some of the finest bass pushers in Colorado and California, and have recently caught the attention of some big names on the national scene, setting the stage for a major breakout in 2010.

    Tracklist
    Omega – Ultima Ratio Regum

Glitch.CZ Podcast Episode I: Foolk and Shipwrek

    2010 - 04.06

    Glitch.CZ Podcast

This is the first episode of a monthly podcast featured on Glitch.CZ. The format includes two musicians, always from two different continents, each playing an approximately 15 to 30 minute set. We hope this podcast will help spread awareness of diverse and emerging musical talents around the world.

This month features the Slovakian producer and monome masher, Foolk. Plus, an exclusive never before heard live set by San Fransisco’s Shipwrek, featuring material from his upcoming release titled ‘Ink’. An interview with Shipwrek follows his performance.

    Foolk

The Slovakia-born experimental music producer Dusan Vanco, has been working under the alias Foolk since 2007. His Music is like a colorful trip through layers of micro-sampling, cut beats, electronic soundscapes and intentional sound destruction. From his live sets you can expect a ton of sampling, beat cutting, and wonky experimentation with his Monome.

    Shipwrek

Shipwrek’s first release titled ‘Journal’ is a journey through the enchanted mundane. Having sampled everything from a forest’s wind to whistling strangers in a back-ally, Shipwrek has imbued his music with something intensely powerful. Experiences, thoughts, and feelings were recorded in a process he refers to as “music journaling”. Because of this, every track is like being on the verge of a new discovery yet simultaneously, there is a gentle familiarity.
