Shankles’ long awaited Gully Foil EP is finally here via Jus Like Music Records, featuring seven ethereal electronic creations, including a remix from S.maharba (BTS Radio, Ocular Science, Error Broadcast) who also mastered the entire EP.
Influenced by the likes of Four Tet, Clark, Nostalgia 77, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and Alex B, the Gully Foil EP is a deep and twisted record, playing on beautiful melodies and bass-ridden breaks.
I recently had the pleasure to perform with Wake down in Florida. We also presented together at a DJ panel with Omega and DJ BC. Once you get em talking, it’s hard to stop four music nerds in front of a receptive audience.
Wake recently put out a remix of Tokimonsta‘s ‘Cigarette Lust’, available via the LA Times which notes the following:
“The result is something deceptively funky enough to make a Golden Girl dance: aquamarine keyboards, ambient synths and crispy drums. The sort of thing that you’d expect A Tribe Called Quest to be rapping over in the year 2012. Someone ought to pass on Wake’s number to Q-Tip.”

Since the release of Ben Sample’s chart toping “Snowstorm” album last year on Daly City Records, it was obvious that the bass grinding track “Drop Bombs” has become a staple in the glitch-hop and bass heavy communities. The natural response was that a remix album would soon follow. Re-imagined by Mochipet, Freddy Todd, Sovereign Sect, Stephan Jacobs, Psymbionic, Chris B, Sugarpill, Dan K, and Samples himself, there is a rework to fit any basshead’s taste! Ranging between 80-140 bpm, each mix contains ultra heavy bass lines and jaw dropping builds. We’ve got two free tracks for you to listen to as well as a promo-mix by Mochipet, so you can get a little taste of the full release.
