This event is a FUNDRAISER to raise money for the ANIMUS arts collective to make art for Burning Man and New York City.
I had the pleasure of catching MartyParty, Opiou, and Freq Nasty at the Santos Party House last month. Ilya P brought in a few extra subs to give the bass that extra little boost. I remember standing with my back to the far wall of the venue and as the bass frequencies changed my body began to vibrate, alternating between a pulse in my knees and my chest. It doesn’t get more visceral than that. The pinnacle of the night was a track MartyParty dropped about half way through his set. The name of that track is Superior and it’s out tomorrow.
I can’t help but get the feeling that the west coast dubstep and bass scene is getting a little stale. There I said it. Go over to Addictech and browse the glitch hop genre for the past two months. It’s all decent, but it all sounds so similar. Whatever happened to the genre bending elements of bass music? Maybe it’s all the recycled patches, but it’s becoming difficult to distinguish one artist from another. I’m not hating, I’m just eager to hear something new. Pantyraid’s Superior EP doesn’t defy the formula, but it does a hell of a job promoting the bass face.
You can buy the EP off http://pantyraid.spinshop.com/

Brolabs is all about collaborating with friends I like to work with and whose music I respect. Each track on Brolabs is a unique collaboration between each artist and myself, not a faceless email trade of songs and samples, the way a lot remixes are done these days. Close friends, great artists, quality time and good music…

This mix is for the Outlook Festival mix competition features some of my favorite tunes at around 140 bpm and reflects the diversity of my tastes. Spacey electro, syncopated broken beats, funky analogue synths, stripped down grimey rhythms and even a couple of jungle/hardcore tracks.
